EQUAL TO EQUAL, IN ALL AREAS OF LIFE
Equal means equal in all aspects of life regardless of whom you are or where you come from and many people have forgotten this. It is important for people to understand that men and women are equals. In most work places, men are given priority preference for promotions and women are often punished for wanting to have babies and take maternity leave to heal their bodies and care for their newborns.
The gay marriage debate has become one issue where straight men and women think that gay people are not their equals. Race has also become an issue with many people bashing illegal and legal immigrants. Some immigrants have become victims of hate crimes. President Obama who is Caucasian and of Kenyan descent has also faced racial prejudice from politicians and others solely based on his race and not the way that he governs. He has been called a communist, a socialist, a Muslim, and other terms that are meant to bash him. Since when did being a Muslim become like a “dirty” word to people. Most Muslims are very respectful of others and even though some Muslims attacked the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, it does not mean that all Muslims are bad people. President Obama has sad that he is a Christian and even his religion has been called into question which shows that even differences of religion can make others feel superior.
The United Sates a country that always says that this is the land of religious and social freedom but it has not been that way for many years. This needs to change because everyone is equal and should be able to live their lives the way that they wish to.
